We have gone through the transition process many times with many families and each time we find that your real concern will be dealing with a number of emotions such as guilt, anticipation, trust, and fear to name a few.

Meet Our Founder
My name is Bob Grapes and I am the Senior Transition Specialist for Senior Care Solutions USA. I first got involved with the senior care world back in June 2009. That date woke me up as well as changed my whole outlook about senior care. On that date, our family had an event that happened to our mother that caused all of our family members to start seeking solutions for senior care that would work for our family.
So, as a retired teacher and a person who considers himself a problem solver, I started to research the senior care industry online. What I found is that most searches leave us all with more questions than answers. My concern was that the more research I did the more mailing lists and phone calls I got from unwanted people whose only concern was to get us to sign up for a community they represented.
I needed and wanted to stop that insanity.
So, I created a transition plan that gave our entire family the help and support needed to help us all through this very emotional and confusing time in life.
Because the transition plan worked so well for our family and the fact that I am now (and have been for some time) considered a senior citizen, I decided to create the Senior Care Solutions USA company to help as many families with loved ones who want and need the help and support at NO cost or obligation to find senior care solutions.

Here's how it works
Step 1
Discovery Session
First, we will meet (in person, on the computer in a zoom meeting, or on the phone) to learn more about your family's situation.
We will gather all of your personal and financial information with a confidential questionnaire that will never be shared with anyone other than your Senior Transition Specialist and your family members. All information will never be shared with any person or community unless you release that info to them.
We will also gather the wants and needs of your loved one before we do an extensive search of communities in your selected areas of choice. Our main goal in searching your choice areas is for you and your loved one to get all their wants and needs they deserve from a community so that they can be safe and comfortable.
From our extensive search of communities in your selected areas, we will come up with a few choices for you and your family as well as your loved one to consider. But rest assured you have total control of every decision of choice of community.
Step 2
The Financial Picture
Next, we'll need to explore the financial picture, and figure out how you can pay for the senior care needed.

We will help you discover your family's Cash Flow IQ. This Cash Flow IQ is important because we know the average cost for Senior Care can be anywhere from $2,500 to over $10,000 per month.
We help you figure out how you will be able to pay these costs. We want to help you fully understand your financial picture so that you can put in place a transition plan for your family and loved one, to live as safely and independently as possible.
Do you know how much you can afford for senior care?
When trying to calculate what your family can afford for Senior Care, the place to start is figuring out your Cash Flow IQ. When a person moves into one of these communities, almost all day-to-day expenses are covered. Usually, the only additional out-of-pocket costs are a phone, cable, out of pocket medical, and petty cash for entertainment, clothes or sundries.
At Senior Care Solutions we will work with you to understand your Cash Flow IQ as well as potential funding sources. Depending on your care needs and other factors, these can include:
- Social security
- Pension
- Savings
- Invested assets
- Veterans Aid and Attendance
- Long Term Care benefits (specific policies, or possible riders on Life Insurance policies)
- Life insurance conversion
- Equity in your home
- Medicaid
Once we get a handle on how your family is going to fund your loved one’s senior care, we can move to the next step.

Understand what the financial picture looks like.
With many senior care living choices and different prices, it can be really tough to figure out the best option for you and your loved one.
The average monthly cost of assisted living nationwide is $4,500, but this figure can vary significantly depending on the state and the specific facility. Similarly, the average national cost for home care is $27 per hour, with differences in rates depending on the state and the provider, each often having its own minimum hours per visit requirement. These numbers can be overwhelming and intimidating. Senior Care Solutions USA is here to help you get a clear understanding of your financial situation so you can create a personalized transition plan that enables your loved one to live safely and as independently as possible.
Evaluating Your Housing Needs
Your personalized transition plan will help you determine the type of accommodation and care your loved one requires. There are numerous options and services available for senior living, including:
- Independent living
- Assisted living communities
- Assisted living homes
- Alzheimer's and dementia care
- In-home companion care
- Skilled nursing care
Assisted living generally costs less than California in-home care. Expenses can vary based on the unit size, such as a studio versus a one or two bedroom apartment. The national average cost for a private one bedroom apartment in an assisted living facility is approximately $3,000 per month. Just like regular housing, there are significant variations in senior housing and care costs depending on the region in which you reside.
Additional Senior Housing Costs
While looking into senior housing options to build your personalized transition plan, we make sure to consider:
- Pricing models. Most assisted living communities offer a base rate that covers the room, with a tiered pricing structure for additional care needs. The more care your loved one needs, the higher the additional cost will be. Other facilities might offer all-inclusive pricing, a la carte options, or charge based on the services used.
- Additional fees. Typically, the base rate in senior housing includes room and board, meals, housekeeping, activities, and round-the-clock onsite support. Be aware of extra costs such as entrance fees, deposits, and charges for other services like transportation, laundry, pet accommodations, and cable TV.
- Lease length. While many assisted living facilities operate on a month-to-month leasing basis, some might require longer-term commitments.
Determining Your Budget
Many senior living residents and their families use private financial resources to cover the costs of senior housing. Long Term Care Insurance (LTCI) is another method to help manage these expenses. Additionally, many facilities utilize a "spend down" model where the senior pays privately for their housing and care for a predetermined period. Once their financial resources are exhausted, they transition to Medicaid assistance provided by the state.
How much can you afford?
To determine what you can afford for independent retirement, assisted living, or dementia/Alzheimer's care, we will start by reviewing your current expenses. In most senior living communities, nearly all daily living costs are typically included in the fee. Generally, the only extra expenses might include costs for a phone, cable, out-of-pocket medical expenses, and small amounts of money for personal spending on entertainment, clothing, or other sundries. Your personalized transition plan will lay out expenses clearly for you and your family to understand in advance.
Your personalized transition plan will answer the 3 essential questions you should be asking assisted living communities before making the big decision:
1
Who Is Caring for Mom or Dad?
2
How Often Will Mom or Dad Be Seen?
3
What Are Their State Reviews?
